Gonzaga Drops Again in Newest AP Poll

The Gonzaga Bulldogs (17-1, 5-0 WCC) fell again in the AP poll for the second straight week. The Zags are currently ranked No. 9 with a total score of 1,050 points from voters.

The St. Mary’s Gaels (16-2, 5-0 WCC) totaled 17 points.

All nine teams on Gonzaga’s non-conference schedule suffered losses this week (Oklahoma State Sooners, Creighton Blue Jays, Arizona State Sun Devils, Alabama Crimson Tide, Maryland Terrapins, Michigan Wolverines, Kentucky Wildcats, UCLA Bruins, Oregon Ducks), which doesn’t help their KenPom and NET rankings.

Coach Mark Few’s team dropped to sixth among all college basketball programs in the NET rankings. However, the Zags still hold a 3-1 record in four Game 1 opportunities and a 4-0 record in four Game 2 opportunities.

As for KenPom, Gonzaga dropped to No. 6 (No. 6 offense, 12th defense). Bart Torvik’s Zags are ranked No. 9. As for Evan Miya, Gonzaga fell out of the top ten. Despite all these changes in the major ranking tools, they are still sitting on the No. 2 seed line for the NCAA Tournament and are slowly retreating toward the No. 3 seed line.

The Zags will continue their unbeaten streak in West Coast Conference play at the Washington State Cougars (8-10, 3-2 WCC) on Thursday, Jan. 15, in nearby Pullman. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. Pacific time on CBS Sports Network.
