Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz revealed the team’s focus in next month’s free agency.
While the Bolts will be looking to upgrade at all positions, the main focus will be on strengthening the offensive line.

“Yes, we are considering all positions,” Hortis said. “We definitely want to make sure we have stability on the offensive line, we have some holes there with Bradley Bozeman retiring and we have some free agents on the other line.
“It absolutely has to be added,” Hotis added. “Excited for the week, great to be with coach again and to add Mike, it’s great.”
Even before center Bradley Bozeman retired, it was clear the Chargers needed to make changes to their offensive line based on performance in 2025. In addition to poor health, the team had last season’s pass-blocking grade and a high pressure rate.
The offensive line ranked last in pass interception success rate (54.4%) and ranked second in quarterback pressure percentage at 38.4%. The unit ranks 28th in yards per carry against the run.

Their struggles in turn hurt Justin Herbert’s performance, as he had more pressures than any other NFL quarterback last season (268 total). He is the second-most sacked quarterback with 54 total sacks.
Additionally, left guard Zion Johnson is a pending free agent and right guard is a potential cut candidate.
That all needs to change in 2026 if the Chargers hope to make a deep playoff run. Those improvements have begun this offseason with the hiring of offensive guru Mike McDaniel, but he needs the right players to run a high-octane offense in Los Angeles.
The process will begin when the NFL free agency window opens next month.
