Gibson and Raymond power Red Wings to a 2-0 victory over the Avalanche

DENVER (AP) — John Gibson made 21 shots for his fourth shutout of the season and Lucas Raymond scored and dished out a team-leading 41st assist as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Colorado Avalanche 2-0 on Monday night.

Gibson improved to 22-11-2 with the 28th career shutout, Colorado’s first since Feb. 4, 2025, ending a streak of 87 consecutive games with at least one goal.

Detroit is 0-14-1 in its first 15 games against Colorado on Monday, including a 5-0 home loss two days ago in which Gibson allowed four goals on 17 shots.

After being shut out on Sunday, the Red Wings scored 33 seconds into the first period when Redmond found an open Marco Casper on a odd-man rush.

It was Kasper’s third goal in the past nine games, after going 44 of 45 without a goal. Before the assist, Raymond had not scored in three consecutive games, his longest scoreless streak of the season.

With 30 seconds left in the game, Raymond scored his 19th goal of the season into an empty net.

With the loss, the Avalanche dropped to 5-7-2 in their past 14 games after starting the season with a 31-2-7 record. It was the third home loss in the past 17 days for Colorado, which had allowed just one point in its first 22 home games this season.

Despite the eventual loss, the Avalanche welcomed back star guard Devon Toews, who missed the previous 13 games with an upper-body injury. He had a block and two hits in 20 minutes and 19 seconds of ice time.
