CHARLOTTE (AccurateWeather) – A massive snowstorm continues to bring the latest snowfall totals in the Carolinas on Saturday.
Many areas saw more than a foot of snow, including Kannapolis, China Grove, Concord, Beech Hill, Salisbury and Harrisburg.
Charlotte received 11 inches of snow, tied for the fourth-largest single-day snowfall on record in the Queen City.
This is Charlotte’s biggest snowstorm since February 26, 2004! About 22 years ago.
Almost everyone in the Carolinas received some snow. There are higher numbers along the coast and lower numbers in the Raleigh and Fayetteville areas.
It was a rare powder snow for the Carolinas. Due to the very cold conditions, the snowflakes did not partially melt before reaching the ground, resulting in some large flakes!
The snow ratio for this event was approximately 20 to 1. This means one inch of precipitation will result in about 20 inches of snow.
The normal snowfall ratio is about 10 to 1. That means one inch of precipitation is equivalent to about 10 inches of snow.
