The New York Giants nailed down the man at wide receiver on Saturday, striking an interesting free agent deal.

The Giants have signed a 28-year-old former 1,000-yard receiver for the Chicago Bears, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.

“Free agent wide receiver Darnell Mooney will sign a one-year contract with the New York Giants worth up to $10 million,” Lanan wrote.

“Mooney, 28, joins Malik Nabors and Darius Slayton in the wide receiver room. With Nabors recovering from a torn ACL and a fully repaired meniscus in the offseason, his presence could be valuable.”

Shortly after Lanan’s report, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed that the Philadelphia Eagles had interest in Mooney before he signed a deal with New York.

“Matt Nagy on the Giants is a factor,” Fowler said on X/Twitter. “Mooney has had a great relationship with Nagy since his days in Chicago. The Eagles were involved as well.”

Although Mooney has cooled off since his stellar season with the Bears in 2021 (1,055 receiving yards and four touchdowns), the 5-foot-11 speedster should be a reliable weapon for Jaxson Dart.

Mooney is an underrated deep threat and running back who is approaching 1,000 yards receiving with the Atlanta Falcons in 2024-25. The Tulane product may not make an impact for some, but it’s hard to imagine him becoming a non-factor alongside Nabors and Slayton in New York.
