March 14 (Reuters) – Russia is supplying Shahed drones to Iran for use against the United States and Israel, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told CNN in excerpts of an interview broadcast on Saturday.
Zelensky told CNN’s Farid Zakaria that it was “100 percent fact” that Iran used Russian-made Shahz to attack U.S. bases.
The Shahd drone has been linked to other attacks on countries in the region, although its manufacturer is not always clear.

Iran has pioneered the Shahd drone, a much cheaper alternative to expensive missiles. According to Ukraine, the Russian military has launched thousands of such missiles in Ukraine since the fall of 2022, marking the first large-scale use of such missiles.
Although Iran initially supplied the drone, Russia now manufactures its own Shahed. Shahd-type drones have since been adopted by the armed forces of other countries, including the U.S. military, which says they are part of current operations against Iran.
