A Millersburg, Pa., resident who voted for Donald Trump three times in presidential elections is speaking out against the president amid rising gas prices amid U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran.
NBC News Tuesday (March 17) edition Meet the media nowSenior political reporter Jonathan Allen spoke with Millersburg residents at a local gas station to get their thoughts on Trump’s war and its impact on gas prices. The national average natural gas price has risen to about $3.80 from just under $3 a month ago, according to AAA.
Most people Allen spoke to agreed with Trump’s decision to attack Iran and said they would be happy to pay higher gas prices. Pennsylvania resident Mike Purcell said the attack on Iran was a “great decision” that should have been made “three presidents ago.” He also said he would be willing to pay “a little more” at the gas station.
Another resident, Jim Matt, had a similar sentiment, saying Trump “did the right thing.” He added, “In the long run, it’s going to help us out because if they get nuclear weapons, you know, we probably won’t be here in a few years. I think [Trump’s] Well done. “
Local Kim Schaffner agreed, saying “we have to do everything we can to keep this country safe,” adding that she expected gas prices to “eventually come down.”
However, not everyone supports the president, including three-time Trump voter Amanda Robbins. When Allen asked what she would say to the president now, Robbins responded: “You’re a worthless piece of shit!”
“So how many votes did you vote for him?” Allen asked.
“Three times,” Robbins replied. “That’s my fault. Looks like I’m an idiot!”
Allen added that Robbins continued to criticize the war in Iran and the rising cost of living.
On Monday (March 16), Trump told reporters, “When this is over, oil prices are going to go down very, very quickly. So will inflation. So will everything else.”
He continued, “But frankly, more important than short-term or even long-term oil prices is this: You can’t allow the most violent, evil country of the last 50 years to have nuclear weapons, because the Middle East will disappear. There is no doubt that Israel will be the first to act, and they will definitely shoot us.”
