Another surfer was attacked by a shark in New South Wales, Australia.
This time, it was a 39-year-old man, whose identity has not been released, who was in the water at Point Plomer on the region’s mid-north coast. As of now, there are few details about the incident, but the attack appears to have occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The surfer had obvious tooth marks on his board, which he believed were bite wounds.
Surf Life Saving NSW chief executive Steve Pearce, who has had his hands full over the past few days with a number of shark encounters, said:
“It is known that there is some shark activity in the area,” he told reporters. ABC. [He’s] Very lucky not to suffer any serious injuries. “

This latest attack follows other attacks – first a child was bitten while swimming in Sydney Harbour; Then, an 11-year-old child was bitten while surfing at Dee Why (where Mercury Psillakas was killed by a great white shark last September); and a man in his 20s was mauled while surfing at North Steyn Beach. Everything was within two days.
Regarding the latter incident, the man was reported to be in critical condition. A good Samaritan who helped rescue a victim in his 20s recalled:
“My mates put him on the surfboard and pushed him to shore. There was blood on the board and I tried to pull them to help. The guy was silent because of the pain but was still conscious and I kept telling him not to look at his legs and we just kept paddling.”
So why are shark attacks so rampant in New South Wales right now? Well, it’s probably bull sharks, and probably weather-related. Pierce continued:
“Our water quality is too poor for bull shark activity. We have two people in hospital with serious injuries this morning. Go to your local swimming pool as we advise the beach is unsafe at this stage.”
