Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix 2023: Timings in India, How to Watch

Just one week after the Hungarian Grand Prix, Formula 1 will return to the Belgian Grand Prix for round 12 of the 2023 F1 Championship. The F1 race weekend starts on Friday, July 28 and runs until Sunday, July 30. This is F1’s sprint weekend, so there are fewer practice sessions, and qualifying for the main race will take place on Friday, July 28. The sprint and sprint races will take place on Saturday, with the main race taking place on Sunday night.

Max Verstappen remains at the top of the standings, while Red Bull Racing’s second driver and Max’s team-mate Sergio Perez maintains second place after a podium finish in Hungary. Following a surprisingly good result in the UK two weeks ago, McLaren managed to maintain its new form and pace in Hungary. Lando Norris claimed his second podium finish of the season, while Oscar Piastri also finished strongly in fifth place. This puts McLaren well ahead of rival Alpine in the championship.

The Belgian Grand Prix weekend will also host the F2, F3 and Porsche Supercup series, making it a busy weekend for racing. Indian F2 drivers Jehan Daruvala and Khushi Maini both scored points in the Hungarian F2 Sprint Race, but failed to score in the more important race. Daruvala is currently one point ahead of Maini in the standings.

2023 Belgian Formula 1 Grand Prix: What to expect

The Belgian Grand Prix takes place at the beautiful and fast Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Stavelo, Belgium. It’s worth noting that wet weather is expected throughout the weekend, which could hamper the race due to safety concerns as it has in 2021, or make the race more exciting and unpredictable if it does go ahead as scheduled. The track is notoriously unsafe in wet conditions and was the site of a horrific F2 accident in 2019 that killed driver Anthoine Hubert and seriously injured Juan Manuel Correa.

Max Verstappen, meanwhile, remains at the top of the standings after a seventh consecutive win in Hungary. A new-look, competitive McLaren is fighting for podium positions and could even lead to changes in the constructors’ championship, but Red Bull Racing’s dominance currently looks unmatched. Lando Norris finished second in Hungary for his second consecutive podium finish.

Ferrari and Aston Martin are still struggling to establish early competitiveness. Mercedes were unable to compete with Red Bull but managed to stay in second place thanks to a consistent performance, although McLaren has proved a tough challenge over the past two races, with seven-time world champion Hamilton finishing third in both Britain and Hungary.
