Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shafali Verma receive NADA notices for missed dope tests

New Delhi: Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shafali Verma have received notices from India’s anti-doping agency NADA after they missed their scheduled doping tests last year. Both players are part of the NADA Registered Testing Pool (RTP), which means they are required to share their whereabouts regularly and be available for unannounced testing during set times each day.

According to sources, the two cricketers were absent during the scheduled Tests and no explanation for their absence was provided. This resulted in their first official “whereabouts failure”.

“We have issued notices to the athletes concerned and the same has been issued to the national federations (BCCI) and the ICC,” a source told news agency PTI.

What happens after a missed test?

Under anti-doping rules, athletes in RTP must constantly update their location details so that testers can contact them at any time. Missing one test will be considered a warning, but three failures within a specific time will be considered a doping violation and may even result in a suspension.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed receipt of the notification from NADA and said it would look into the matter.

“Yes, we have been informed by NADA about the missed test. We will check with them as to how this happened and necessary steps will be taken so that it does not happen again in the future,” a BCCI source said.

The issue has attracted attention as cricket returns to the Olympics in 2028 in Los Angeles and the importance of strict compliance with anti-doping regulations becomes increasingly important.

Currently, NADA has 13 Indian cricketers in its RTP list, including Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant.
