Former treasurer stole over $17K from N.J. high school, investigators say

The former treasurer of Cicely Tyson High School for the Performing Arts in East Orange has been arrested on charges of stealing more than $17,000 from a fundraising account, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday.

The 44-year-old Livingston woman was working as the school’s principal’s secretary at the time of the alleged theft, the office said. She has since resigned from her position at the magnet school.

Investigators say the employee allegedly wrote checks totaling $17,360 from the fundraising account between July 5, 2024, and June 16, 2025, and used the funds for personal expenses.
