Former LSU football QB Garrett Nussmeier wins Senior Bowl MVP

LSU football quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was named the Senior Bowl MVP on Saturday. Nussmeier only threw the ball eight times, and the numbers weren’t eye-popping, but Nussmeier looked healthy again and his talent was on display. Nussmeier also hit some impressive pitches and showed off his athleticism.

Nussmeier is projected to be among the nation’s top quarterbacks in 2025. Before the season began, he was discussed as a Heisman candidate and a potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. But that wasn’t the case, and Nussmeier and the entire LSU offense struggled.

However, Nussmeier is clearly not healthy. There have been rumors of injuries in training camp, but LSU head coach Brian Kelly hasn’t revealed many details. Kelly went on to say Nussmeier is improving, but it’s clear the veteran quarterback doesn’t have all the physical attributes we saw early in his career.

Nussmeier addressed the injury last week, indicating he was essentially unable to use his core to throw.
