After perfecting his game as a 2025 undrafted free agent last summer, former Iowa State basketball star guard Payton Sandfort signed a two-way contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder’s G League affiliate Oklahoma City Blue as a 2025 undrafted free agent. Scored his first career score in his debut.
Sandford, who averaged 10.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 17 games for the Thunder, made his Thunder debut in the Thunder’s dominant 121-92 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

With the game going smoothly, Sandford finally shined on the NBA stage. He grabbed a rebound in the last 4 minutes and 44 seconds of the game, made 1 of 3 field goals and 1 of 2 three-pointers.
Sandford’s only shot of the night came with 46.6 seconds left, a quick catch-and-shoot three from the wing that delighted the entire Thunder bench as he set this memorable personal milestone.
While it’s uncertain what role Sandford will play in the Thunder moving forward as the team finally gets healthy, the former Hawkeye is certainly willing to put in his best efforts to help the defending champions make another deep playoff run this spring.
