Football: Louisiana Tech safety Jacob Fields signs with TCU

The TCU Horned Frogs will have a major hole to fill at the safety position, with sixth-year safety and three-time Big 12 honoree Bud Clark departing after earning second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2025. However, the Horned Frogs reportedly signed Louisiana Tech transfer safety Jacob Fields, who is currently coached by former TCU defensive back and Big 12 Conference winner Sam Carter. Jeremy Clark of 247Sports first reported the news of Fields signing with TCU. In the first major defensive hit in the transfer portal, the Horned Frogs return All-Big 12 safety Jamel Johnson and nickelback Kylin Jackson. Fields played in 36 games in three seasons at Louisiana Tech, initially as an offensive tackle and later as a safety. In 2023, Fields rushed 26 times for 105 yards and two touchdowns and had 12 catches for 97 yards in 11 games. In 2024, Fields totaled 54 tackles, including 5.5 tackles for loss, six tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, and two defensive back interceptions.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound junior from Melissa, Texas, will have one year of eligibility remaining when he arrives in Fort Worth. Fields was a three-star recruit out of high school who held offers from North Texas, Texas State, UTSA, Army, Air Force and more before signing with Louisiana Tech and is currently coached by former TCU assistant Sonny Cumbie.
