Luke Lox was building until the final hours of the portal window. According to Joe Tipton of On3, Wake Forest transfer forward Cooper Schwieger has committed to Florida State, giving the Seminoles a chance to play in the finals and give the Seminoles a key frontcourt addition to cap off a historically productive offseason.
Schweiger, a 6-foot-10 junior from Overland Park, Kan., played in 34 games for Wake Forest last season, including 11 starts, and totaled 172 points and 84 rebounds while ranking second on the team with 20 blocks. He’s taken a step back from his breakout sophomore season at Valparaiso, where he averaged 15.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game and was named to the Missouri All-State team. A second-team All Valley honor, he led the league in rebounding average, ranked first in blocks with 68 and had 10 double-doubles in 34 starts.

The pedigree that originally drew Wake Forest to Schweiger remains intact. As a freshman at Valparaiso in the 2023-24 school year, Schweiger was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year. He is the fourth Valpo freshman to win conference freshman or freshman of the year honors and the fourth MVC freshman since the 1992-93 season to average at least 13.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, joining Southern Illinois’ Marcus Domask, Creighton’s Doug McDermott and Tulsa’s Shay Hales.
Schweiger joins a Florida State frontcourt that already includes Sebastian Rancic, Sean Abayev and incoming freshman Mathis Pond, giving Laux one of the deepest and most physical rotations in the ACC. He has one year of eligibility left in Tallahassee.
With Schweiger officially on board, it ends a Florida State transfer portal cycle that produced five new members, Taylor, Robinson II, Rancic, Abayev and now Schweiger and vaulted the program into the top five nationally in On3’s transfer portal team rankings. The pieces are in place. Year two under Laux now begins.
