A popular conservative social media figure claims liberals have been exaggerating their political influence, insisting conservative voices are a silent majority silenced for fear of losing their jobs.
Self-proclaimed entrepreneur and CEO Sabina Gilman shared her thoughts on the power of the silent majority in response to a comment on her TikTok video that threatened to send her post to her employer.
“I am my own employer,” Gilman explained. “I’m the CEO of my own company.”
Gilman said conservatives outnumber liberals in the country, but most of them are unable to express their opinions publicly in offices dominated by the latter because of threats of dismissal or cancel culture. Gilman cited messages from some of her followers, calling them “silent conservatives” who were afraid of risking their jobs by sharing Gilman’s posts.
“Liberals think they’re the majority in this country. You’re not, folks. We’re not the majority in this country. The problem is, if we speak out and we don’t fit the liberal narrative, the liberal agenda, you’re immediately going to try to take our jobs, our education, try to get us fired, try to cancel us,” Gilman said. “That’s the line.”
As Gilman explains, this doesn’t apply to her as a self-employed person. “People can’t afford to lose their jobs. People can’t afford to be fired. And me, I can say whatever the fuck I want because you can’t get me fired. I’m my own boss. So I’m going to be the spokesperson.”
Gilman backed up her claim with a story from her friend, a nurse from Florida, who told her that other nurses encouraged her in private conversations to post about a man killed in an ICE operation because silence connotes complicity.
To her, it was like posting a black square in solidarity with George Floyd protesters in June 2020, when not doing so meant calling yourself a racist.
“It immediately reminded me of the whole George Floyd situation, where everyone was posting little black squares,” Gilman explained. “If you didn’t post a black square, you were labeled a racist. That was when I really came into my era where I was just a rebel and didn’t care what people thought or said. I didn’t post that black square.”
Gilman said the experience taught her to ignore social pressures. “I really can’t imagine working at a typical left-leaning company where I can’t speak out what I believe. If I made these videos, these liberals would be following me left and right trying to get me fired. It’s crazy that they think they can speak out and we can’t, even though we are the majority in this country.”
Gilman went on to further mention that while her nurse friends were encouraged to post information about men killed in ICE operations, no such encouragement was provided when popular conservative commentator Charlie Kirk recently passed away.
“When Charlie Kirk passed away, did those in your little group chat also say we should post stories on Instagram and express our condolences? No. No one said anything,” Gilman stressed. “The hypocrisy of the left is absolutely ridiculous to me.”
However, despite Gilman’s criticism of liberals, she does not suggest that all conservatives should speak out.
“I’m not saying everyone should speak out because I know a lot of people are just in situations where they’re not physically able to speak out. Everyone has their situation and we can’t force people to talk about topics they don’t want to talk about,” Gilman noted.
Still, she hopes to be a source of motivation for other conservatives to speak out about politics. “Maybe I can be an advocate for other people to speak up and use me as a little bit of motivation, like, if she can do it, I can do it too. Because I really think we’re where we are now because more people aren’t speaking out.”
