A preliminary investigation revealed the motorcycle was traveling southbound on East Mercury Boulevard when it collided with a vehicle traveling eastbound on East Pembroke Avenue.
Adrian Davis, manager of the Wawa east of Mercury, said he heard a loud bang while at work. Once outside, he could hear sirens and see the lights of the emergency team.
“Just as I walked in the door, I heard a bang and a bang, and I looked out and saw a bunch of sirens and lights and a bunch of shit,” Davis said. “It was shocking that my night started like that, very sad; very sad. No one wants this to happen; very sad; very crazy.”
Davis said police arrived after the incident. An anonymous witness claimed it was due to a police pursuit of the motorcyclist.
“I saw the police officer’s lights, a block before the intersection, and he turned off the lights and sirens,” the anonymous witness said. “The motorcycle came through the intersection and traffic started to turn because the police officer turned off the lights.”
The alleged mother of motorcyclist Miranda Cantrell said she knew something was wrong when her 18-year-old son Jayden didn’t call her after get off work.
“My son usually calls me and says hey, mom, got to the store, I’m getting ready to close, see you later,” Cantrell said. “I didn’t get that call.”
Cantrell said she had not heard from Hampton police since the incident and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
“We’re here forever and I have no answers. No one notified me. No one looked for me. No one said anything,” Cantrell said. “If you have information, tell us if you saw it, if you witnessed it, if you have video. We need help. We need to piece this all together.”
The Hampton Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
