Liverpool are mired in eighth place in the Premier League table after 14 games and look unlikely to defend their title.
Despite victory over West Ham at the weekend, Arne Slaughter is still struggling to turn around his side’s poor form. The Reds dropped another two points as they drew 1-1 with newly promoted Sunderland at Anfield on Wednesday.

Things shouldn’t be like this for the top flight champions – especially after a record-breaking transfer window. Richard Hughes spends £450m on new players, including UK recording deals for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isaac.
Liverpool linked with Rodrygo again
But those deals haven’t paid off just yet – Liverpool’s attack still looks rather lackluster.
Before things get better, some changes have to be made and it has been suggested that the Anfield club may re-enter the market for further reinforcements.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that two suitors have been eliminated from the competition Rodrygo is a long-term forward target.
The 24-year-old Real Madrid striker has endured a terrible season under new head coach Xabi Alonso and has now gone 31 games without scoring.
Arsenal and Chelsea eliminated in Rodrygo match
Rodrigo could therefore leave as early as January – with Real Madrid willing to cash in on the Brazilian for a fee starting at £75m.
Liverpool have long-standing interest in Rodrygo, having competed with Real Madrid for his signature before he joined the Spanish capital club from Santos in 2019.

Rodrygo is contracted until 2028 and is believed to have attracted interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as Liverpool and Manchester City.
But Romano now believes the London outfit are out, adding that he expects Rodrygo to exit the Bernabeu in 2026.

Can Rodrigo leave? Yes
“So, reports on Rodrigo’s future: 0% on Chelsea,” Romano told his YouTube viewers.
“Forget Rodrygo and Chelsea. We’ve always had rumors like this. Nothing in January.”
“And about Arsenal – that story is not true. Arsenal didn’t do a deal for Rodrygo in the January transfer window.

“Rodrigo’s situation: can he leave Real Madrid in 2026? My answer is yes.”
“If they receive a good offer, it’s possible. When I say ‘they’, I mean Rodrygo, I mean Real Madrid. Both sides – it’s possible.”
“Man City wanted him last summer. Let’s see what happens in 2026. It’s still quiet at the moment so still trying to find an internal solution to the problem and Rodrigo reacts and maybe scores a goal to break this bad moment and try to move forward.
“Then, if that’s not possible, I think we should leave the door open for a potential move for Rodrygo in 2026.”
