Exclusive: Liverpool line-up exciting move to sign their next Andy Robertson

Liverpool are considering signing the next Andy Robertson.

Who is the greatest signing of the Michael Edwards era?

This is not Mohamed Salah. This is not Virgil van Dijk. Neither is Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino.

This is Andy Robertson.

£8 million. Now what does this get you? It can’t even give you a Fabio Carvalho. But almost a decade ago, it would have been enough to sign one of the best left-backs the Premier League has ever produced.

Even then, signing Robertson was a steal. In the summer of the same year, Liverpool sold Kevin Stewart to Hull City for £8 million, which meant that the Scot cost basically nothing to the Reds.

Robertson became an extraordinary player and defined a successful era for Liverpool.

This summer marks the end of his time at the club and a new beginning for Liverpool. They can also sign the next Robertson this summer.

But not at left-back.

As the season unfolded, the void left by Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back became increasingly apparent.

Despite Conor Bradley being declared the natural heir to his throne, the ongoing injury problems he has faced this season and in all three of his seasons at Anfield have raised concerns about his reliability as first choice long-term.

There is no doubt that he can still play a role in the team, especially since he is a home-grown player, but Liverpool need more certainty in such an important position.

Jeremy Frimpong has also been touted as Alexander-Arnold’s replacement, but he has yet to prove himself as a reliable defensive player and his strengths are clearly better suited to a more advanced attacking role.

A lack of confidence in Frimpong and doubts about Bradley’s fitness have forced Liverpool to take action and they will try to strengthen the right-back position this summer.
