The Toronto Blue Jays have been one of the most active and aggressive teams so far this offseason. Coming off the World Series, the Blue Jays committed to building a competitive roster and spent a lot of money to make it work.

They have donated $210 million to Dylan Cease and $30 million to Cody Ponce. Now, the Blue Jays have a lot of options on the roster, with Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette being the players they are most likely to sign.

Former MLB general manager Jim Bowden of The Athletic urged the Blue Jays to select Bichette this winter and offer the All-Star shortstop a reasonable contract worth $189 million over seven seasons.

“Bichette’s reunion will allow the Blue Jays to regroup and preserve the Vladimir Guerrero Jr./Bichette tandem for years to come,” Bowden wrote. “Bichette wants to be there and they want him to be there – let’s get it done.”

The contract Bowden offered would also make perfect sense for the Blue Jays to sign Bichette. Bichette could re-sign for much less instead of spending over $400 million on Tucker.

Spending just $27 million per season on Bichette is not a small amount by any means, but after re-signing Bichette, Toronto still has plenty of money to work with if they want to make other moves this winter.

Bichette is 27 years old and will be 28 when the 2026 MLB season begins. Re-signing Bichette this winter is a priority for the Blue Jays, and if the deal is mutually agreeable, it could be a great deal for Toronto.

Bichette is batting .311 this season, his best since his shortened rookie season in 2019, and will be a highly sought-after player this winter.

The $189 million contract Bowden proposed is a good deal for the Blue Jays because it’s not too expensive overall and it’s not too expensive on an annual basis.

Bichette’s return to the Blue Jays is likely an offseason result, but if it were in this proposed trade, it would be a great way to add energy to an already active offseason for the Blue Jays.
