Esteban Ocon eyes drift championship outing as he proposes seat swap

“It’s still about the car, but it would be nice to swap seats with some of the drift champions,” said the 29-year-old F1.com When asked what he would do if he wasn’t in F1.

“Not for too long, but for one day! I participated in the WRC [World Rally Championship] This is already happening, which is crazy. There are really many things to try. I was talking to my girlfriend not too long ago and obviously I still have a long time before I can compete, but I’ve been doing this my whole life.

“I’ve never really thought about doing anything else because this is what I want to do. One day it’s going to come and I’m going to have to think about it, so we’ll see!”

If Ocon succeeds in his wish, he will follow in the footsteps of F1 driver Yuki Tsunoda, who recently took a drift masterclass with five-time Formula Drift champion James Deane.

Deane gave the Japanese driver a test drive in the Ford Mustang Dark Horse and then showed him how his 1100+ horsepower Ford Mustang RTR performed.

“The adrenaline was like…wow!” Tsunoda exclaimed after taking on the figure-eight challenge. “I needed to calm down. I actually forgot to breathe. I was actually holding my breath.”

He added after hopping into the passenger seat of the Dean Mustang RTR: “I don’t know what’s going on. I’m just disoriented which way I’m facing. Like, am I facing the wall right now or… oh my god. I’m sweating more than I did yesterday’s race.”
