Epic Games is permanently bringing back the original Fortnite, complete with maps and loot from the game’s first season. Players will be able to play the popular battle royale game starting on December 9, the developer announced on Tuesday. Fortnite launched in early access in 2017, offering co-op and battle royale modes, and quickly became a phenomenon. Fortnite is currently in the middle of its Chapter 2 remix season, with locations and loot inspired by the game’s second chapter.
Fortnite OG released
Epic Games confirmed the return season, dubbed “Fortnite OG,” in a post on Tuesday. “OG is back and here to stay. Relive the battle royale from the beginning, explore the OG map, collect OG loot, and relive the OG season. Returning on December 6,” the developers said. The post also showed off an image of the Fortnite Season 1 map.

This isn’t the first time that Epic Games has returned to an original Fortnite season. The studio launched a month-long Fortnite OG season in November 2023 and received an overwhelming response from players. Following the launch of the Fortnite OG season last year, the game experienced its biggest day ever. Epic Games confirmed at the time that more than 44.7 players had logged into the OG season and had played more than 102 million hours.
Fortnite has gone through multiple seasonal updates and iterations over the years, and the game is nothing like the one it was at launch. In addition to its popular battle royale mode, it now offers six different modes, including LEGO Fortnite and Rocket Racing.
The game is now known for its massive end-of-season event and in-game concerts by some of the biggest pop stars. Fortnite is currently in its fifth chapter, with Chapter 6 launching next month.
On November 2, Epic Games announced Chapter 2, “Remix,” which brings back remixed and reimagined content from Chapter 2 of the game, with weekly locations and loot drops. In addition, Chapter 2 Remix also features rappers such as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Ice Spice and Juice WRLD. Fortnite is free to play on PC, Mac, mobile devices, Xbox and PlayStation platforms.
