England thrashes Wales 48-7 in Six Nations opener with Arundell hat trick

LONDON (AP) — England beat Wales 48-7 in the Six Nations title match at Twickenham on Saturday.

England scored seven tries to score bonus points, including three from winger Henry Arundel, as they made it 12th straight win since last year’s Six Nations.

The 41-point victory was England’s biggest home win against Wales since a 62-5 victory in a warm-up match for the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

England led 29-0 at half-time, a score that looked within reach, but the game lost its energy and became bogged down by mistakes and discipline.

Wales also became more competitive but received four yellow cards and were twice reduced to 13 men. England received two yellow cards, one of which came seconds after Maro Itoje came on as a substitute for his first Six Nations appearance since 2020.

Wales suffered a record 12th consecutive defeat in the tournament since 2023 and return to Cardiff next weekend to face favorites France.

England plays Scotland, where England have not won since 2020.
