AHMEDABAD: For Ishan Kishan, India’s victory over New Zealand in the World Cup was more than just a celebration. The explosive left-hander, who struck 54 off 25 balls in the final, revealed that he lost his cousin in a car accident the day before the final.
“I didn’t want to say this, but I lost my cousin in a car accident yesterday (Saturday). I only found out during practice,” Kishan said. “She always wanted me to run well. Today was a big day and I thought the best thing I could do was score runs for her. That’s why I held my head up after my fifty – it was for my sister.”
“I wasn’t feeling well mentally but Hardik bhai. He told me it wasn’t easy but he said we have to support each other for the cause of the team,” Kishan said. “I had that angry display.
Kishan said he has changed his mindset over the past year to focus only on things within his control. “I don’t think about it too much anymore,” he admits.
