DWTS Pro Mourns Unthinkable Tragedy: ‘Absolutely Shattered’

Sharna Burgess is heartbroken after the mass shooting at Australia’s Bondi Beach.

According to NBC News, the New South Wales police force said that on December 14, two men, a father and son, opened fire, killing 15 people and injuring 40 others. A 50-year-old man was shot and killed by police, and his 24-year-old son was seriously injured and hospitalized.

Burgess, who is from Australia, reacted on social media after hearing the news.

Burgess wrote on her Instagram Stories on Sunday, December 14: “My heart is completely broken to read about the mass shooting at Bondi Beach. It’s a place I love dearly, a place I’ve always felt safe and I’ve always been proud of. The news doesn’t read like my home country, it reads like the devastation I see on a regular basis in the US, which breaks my heart even more.”

“This is not the Australian way, this is not who we are as a people. Guns? Mass shootings? When did we stoop so low. My love, my tears, my fury, my fury and my deepest condolences are dedicated to all the people who have lost loved ones, who have had people fighting for their lives, who have been hurt and all of my fellow Australians who have been affected. No words can make it better but my heart is with you,” Burgess added.

Burgess spends considerable time in her native country and travels there every year to hold events dancing with the starsAustralia.
