If you have a dual-SIM phone, you can use different SIM cards to make calls to different numbers and use different numbers to send text messages. But did you know that you can set up dual WhatsApp accounts and use them on the same phone? If you’re wondering how to install two WhatsApp accounts on one phone, you’ve come to the right place. There are a few different ways to do this, and some phone manufacturers offer it as a built-in feature. In other cases, you’ll have to resort to third-party apps, but it’s actually very easy to run two WhatsApp accounts on one Android phone. Sorry, iPhone users, you’re out of luck if you don’t resort to a method we don’t recommend.
Obviously, this method of running two WhatsApp accounts on one phone requires a dual-SIM phone – WhatsApp uses the phone number as your identity and detects this through text messages or calls, so it has to be a phone with two SIM cards, which is also beyond any iPhone. If you have a dual SIM phone, then the next step should be to check your settings as the manufacturer has most likely created settings or dual WhatsApp.
Many Chinese manufacturers allow you to create app clones that can then be used with a dual-SIM setup. For example, on Honor’s EMUI skin, the feature is called App Twin. On Xiaomi phones, it’s called Dual Apps. Vivo calls it App Clone and Oppo calls it Clone App. These companies have slightly different ways of setting it up, so you’ll need to check the specifics of your phone, but we’ve listed the steps for some popular brands first. If your phone doesn’t support this feature, you can also try another workaround listed at the end.
If you have Oppo, Xiaomi, Honor
If you own one of these phones, the steps you need to follow are very simple and very similar for all three manufacturers, which is why we’ve gathered them in one place. In all three cases, you first need to install WhatsApp on your phone through Google Play. After that, you can clone the app in your phone settings.
Here are the detailed steps to run two WhatsApp accounts on a Xiaomi phone, but the other two accounts are also very similar:
- After installing WhatsApp, go to set up.
- Click dual app. On Honor phones this is called application twinswhile on Oppo it is Clone application.
- You’ll see a list of apps that can use the feature, with a toggle on the side. Clone any app with the flip of a switch.
That’s it, you’re done. Check if your manufacturer also supports app cloning, if so, then these steps should get you a second copy of WhatsApp on your phone. It’s a little different on Vivo phones, so we’ll explain that first and then discuss how to set up a second WhatsApp.
How to run two WhatsApp accounts on Vivo phone
Vivo’s steps are very similar to other brands, but slightly different. To clone WhatsApp on a Vivo phone (we tested it on Vivo V5s), just follow these steps:
- Go to set up.
- Scroll down to find Application cloningthen click it.
- Now, toggle the switch to enable Show clone button.
- Next, install WhatsApp on your phone via Google Play.
- Long press on any app icon. You’ll see a small “x” to delete an app, but some apps, like WhatsApp, will also have a small “+” symbol.
- Click + Clone WhatsApp on your phone.
Okay, at this point you should have two copies of WhatsApp on your phone. Here’s what you need to do next.
Set up Dual WhatsApp
Setting up a second WhatsApp account is as easy as setting up the first one. If you have any questions, please see the detailed steps below.
- Launch a second WhatsApp.
- On the next page, click Agree and continue.
- Next, you can grant access to files and contacts to this copy of WhatsApp by clicking continue and follow the on-screen instructions, or click not now at present.
- Now you have to verify your phone number. This is the key part – remember, it must be a second SIM phone number, if you enter the primary number, you are just transferring WhatsApp access from one app to the next.
- After entering the number, tap Nextthen click Confirm Number OK.
- WhatsApp will then send a verification code to check the number, which it will automatically read if you grant permission. Otherwise, just enter the verification code to get started. If you don’t receive the text message, you can also click call An on-screen button makes a verification call.
That’s it – you now have two versions of WhatsApp running on your phone. You’ll be able to send and receive messages using both numbers, so this can be useful if, for example, you want to separate personal from professional use.
You can also install multiple copies of other applications using the steps given above. For example, if you want to install two Twitter apps or two Facebook apps (for personal use and one business account) on your phone, you can easily do it by following the same steps, but obviously, you need to clone these apps instead of WhatsApp.
What if my phone doesn’t support app cloning?
If your phone doesn’t support app cloning, there are still a few ways to go ahead and install a second copy of WhatsApp. You’ll still need a dual-SIM phone to send and receive messages from both accounts. We found some popular methods online and we think the best one is an app called Parallel Space.
As the name suggests, this app creates a parallel “space” where you can install apps, allowing you to clone different apps. Here are the steps to use this application:
- You must first install Parallel Space from Google Play. Once you launch the app, it will immediately take you to Clone application Page.
- Select all the apps you want to clone and click Add to parallel space button.
- Next, you’ll be transported to a parallel space where the app runs in a virtual installation on your phone.
- Now, proceed with setting up WhatsApp as mentioned above.
That’s it, you can use WhatsApp and other apps by accessing them through Parallel Space app. The app is free but ad-supported, although ads can be removed with an in-app purchased subscription; this is Rs. 30 rupees per month, 50 rupees for three months, 80 rupees for 6 people. 150 for lifetime subscription. Likewise, this can also be used for applications like Facebook.
Another method we found on many websites is to install an app called GBWhatsApp, but this requires installing the app via an APK, which does carry some risks. Other than that, it’s only useful for a single scenario of running dual WhatsApp, so we think using Parallel Space is a better option.
That’s all. You can now start using two WhatsApp accounts simultaneously. If you’d like to read more of our guides, check out our how-to section for tons of tips and tricks.
