The war between the United States and Iran seems to have accidentally spread into the gaming world. Iranian drones hit web servers in the Middle East, coinciding with some Fortnite issues.

Epic Games acknowledged the issue on social media, adding that “Players may experience increased latency. We are rerouting to local servers near the area to try to improve this issue and will keep you updated on any further developments.”

Iranian drones destroyed two Amazon Web Services data centers in the United Arab Emirates, while a third data center in Bahrain was damaged by a drone landing, the Associated Press reported.

“These attacks caused structural damage, disrupted power delivery to our infrastructure, and in some cases required firefighting activities, resulting in additional water damage,” AWS said in a statement on its online dashboard.

Because these attacks target physical locations rather than the network itself, most AWS outages appear to be centered in the Middle East. But the incident highlights how vulnerable network services can become without secure infrastructure to host them.
