Dollar Tree quietly makes change customers have wanted for years

News of Dollar Tree’s policy change came from an Instagram post from The Krazy Coupon Lady, a money-saving brand founded by two coupon shoppers who give people advice on stacking coupons and sales to get the lowest prices.

In an Instagram post, the Crazy Coupon Lady declared that “Dollar Tree is a game changer.”

“Starting this month, Dollar Tree is finally selling cheap items to customers,” the post went on to explain. “They’ve been saying no for years, but due to policy changes, now it’s only $0.01 if you can find them.”

According to multiple Reddit posts, Dollar Tree store employees appear to have confirmed the policy shift.

“We received a message in our operations center and received an email from our district manager with the new policy,” one poster said.

“We are allowed to sell items from the fourth quarter clearance event. They are now marked down to a penny in the system. However, when a customer makes a purchase, if they leave anything on the shelf, we are expected to collect the remaining items.”

Other posters confirmed this, indicating that they received the same fulfillment center message in their stores.

Penny items are often leftover items from clearance events. As the Instagram post explains, this currently includes items leftover from the recent $0.25 clearance. Use these three tips to take advantage of this new ultra-low pricing.

• Find items in stores that have been marked down to a penny. There are some lists online that can help.

• Use the in-store scanner to confirm the $0.01 price.

• Collect all the items you want before going to the checkout, as store associates will pick them up after you purchase them.

This process means you need to understand the new policy. $0.01 items will not be advertised and prices will not appear on store price tags.

The good news is that quieter deals may mean less competition for items, as most customers may not be aware of the savings opportunity.
