The first-round games of the College Football Playoff have been set. Oregon State, Mississippi State, Alabama and Miami will advance to the quarterfinals on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. While some of this season’s first-round games were more competitive than last year, lopsided wins over Five-school conference Tulane and James Madison sparked debate about whether there should be G5 schools in the CFP. Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey got into a heated debate on the topic. Ross Dellenger also joins the group, and the three discuss what changes should be made for the College Football Playoff going forward.

Then, they take a closer look at the matchup that Alabama won. The guys discuss all the talk about Kallen DeBoer leading up to the game and whether he’ll be headed to Michigan State or maybe even get fired if he loses this game. They also discuss how Alabama handled their early deficit, compared to their performance in the SEC Championship Game, and whether the Crimson Tide can move forward.
Afterwards, there was a discussion about Michigan State’s coaching search and where it stands now. DeBoer appears to be out, especially since he’s still in the CFP and now another rumored target in Michigan is no longer in consideration. Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham has re-signed with the Sun Devils and will no longer be in Michigan’s starting lineup. Biff Poggi is the interim head coach. Does he have a chance to become a permanent option? Some other thoughts have been floated about a coach named Harbaugh and a coach who just stepped down at Utah.
