Legendary South African footballer Dr Khumalo has expressed strong support for national team head coach Hugo Burrows’ recent squad selections and singled out him for including two special players.

Commenting on the initial roster of 54 players, Kumalo said Burrows was the first Bafana Bafana head coach in recent years to face such a popular challenge in finalizing the squad.
Broos will lead South Africa in its second consecutive Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) event, which is scheduled to be held in Morocco on December 21, 2025. The team is in Group B with Zimbabwe, Angola and Egypt.
“I think this is the first coach who has had a headache with player selection,” Kumalo said. “It’s the first time I’ve seen a coach with more than 40 or 30 players in his pre-selected squad. So he’s got 54. It’s clear something is happening within the PSL and players are raising their hands.”
The Kaizer Chiefs legend attributes the difficult choice to the outstanding talent currently available in the domestic league, which he believes creates a highly competitive and strong player pool for the national team coach.
