Did the Miami Dolphins just fire the Arizona Cardinals’ next head coach?

The Arizona Cardinals so far have eight candidates looking to interview for their open head coaching position. The Cardinals fired Jonathan Gannon on Monday after finishing the season with a 3-14 record. The team ended the year losing nine straight games and 14 of its last 15 games.

A potential candidate that many didn’t expect has just been fired. The Miami Dolphins decided to part ways with head coach Mike McDaniel on Thursday, days after it appeared he would return to lead the Dolphins for a fifth season.

While he has drawn interest from some teams, will the Cardinals be involved?

He compiled a 35-33 record in four seasons with Miami, leading the Dolphins to the playoffs twice, though he went 0-2 in the postseason.

Would the Cardinals be interested in McDaniel?

Many are already dreaming of him coming to Arizona as offensive coordinator to join Robert Saleh as head coach, as the two worked together under Kyle Shanahan with the San Francisco 49ers.

However, the reality is that if the Cardinals aren’t interested in him as head coach, he probably won’t be interested in the Cardinals job either, considering there are already more exciting and more certain openings at the quarterback position — the Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Commanders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers all come to mind.

We’ll see if he ends up being targeted by the Cardinals as a potential candidate to replace Gannon.
