Detroit Lions’ veteran tackle announces retirement decision amid 2026 offseason

The Detroit Lions are preparing for the 2026 NFL season, with coaching changes, roster moves, free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft also on the horizon. But before the chaos began, their star veteran offensive tackle Dan Skipper quietly decided to announce his retirement.

Skipper posted a photo of his family on Instagram to announce the news to Detroit fans. “[Twenty-four] Pads and helmets have been put on every fall for years. ” tackle Skipper wrote on Instagram.

“This year, I will be giving up that and pursuing a career in coaching. The memories and experiences the NFL has given me and my family are hard to describe in words. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey. It’s time for me to ‘report’ into retirement (sorry I have to do it for the last time!),” the 31-year-old tackle added.
