Derrick White, Celtics torch Heat 129-116 at TD Garden

BOSTON — When Miami Heat fans go to bed tonight, they may have nightmares about Boston Celtics guard Derrick White. The veteran sharpshooter dominated the Heat with nine 3-pointers, his most in a game, as the C’s won 129-116 on Friday night at TD Garden.

This isn’t the first time White has troubled the Heat, as he has performed plenty of heroics in the playoffs against Miami in recent years. The fifth-year Celtics player scored a season-high 33 points, plus six assists, five rebounds and four blocks. White scored 30 points in his second straight game Friday night and the first time in his long career.

Celtics star Jaylen Brown also scored 30 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists in 35 minutes. Although the Green Team took 20 fewer shots than the Heat, Boston shot 54% while Miami shot 39%.

After achieving double-digit victories, the Celtics currently have a record of 16 wins and 11 losses. That allowed them to remain in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, while the Heat (15-13) slipped to seventh.

The Celtics’ next opponent is just one of the three teams ahead of them in the Eastern Conference: the Toronto Raptors. Boston travels to Canada tonight to prepare for Saturday night’s showdown.
