Korean developer Pearl Abyss’ open-world action-adventure game Crimson Desert has been further delayed to 2026. The game, originally slated to launch in late 2025, will now launch in the first quarter of 2026, the studio told investors during its fiscal 2025 second-quarter earnings call on Wednesday. Pearl Abyss said various aspects of Crimson Desert’s pre-release production work, such as offline distribution, voice acting and console certification, resulted in a “longer than expected” timeline that “inevitably” delayed the game’s release.

The delay, which was first reported by Gematsu , marks the second time Crimson Desert has been delayed. The game was released in 2019 and was initially slated to launch in late 2021 before being delayed indefinitely. Pearl Abyss announced a late 2025 release window for the game in December 2024, but no release date was confirmed.
In a recent earnings call with investors, the studio known for developing the hit MMORPG Black Desert Online said it would delay the game until the first quarter of 2026 to ensure “meaningful success at scale.” Pearl Abyss said the release date has been confirmed internally, but will only share information at a later “more appropriate time.”
“The release of Crimson Desert, our first major AAA console game, will inevitably be delayed by a quarter from the previously announced schedule,” Pearl Abyss reportedly said before the Q&A portion of Thursday’s earnings call.
“This is due to schedule coordination and collaboration with multiple partners for offline distribution, dubbing, console certification and other release preparations, which has taken longer than expected. We deeply apologize for being unable to meet the originally committed fourth quarter release schedule. Please understand that this is a strategic decision designed to ensure success at meaningful scale.”
“The release date has been internally determined to be Q1 2026. However, given the change in release timing, we will announce the date at a more appropriate time based on business considerations rather than making an announcement at Gamescom next week. We appreciate your continued interest in our company and we will do our best to provide a better experience.”
The studio said it is currently producing voice acting for the game and conducting console certification in preparation for release. However, Pearl Abyss confirmed its marketing efforts for Crimson Desert will continue as planned. The action-adventure game will be unveiled at Gamescom and PAX West this month, where the developer will showcase its open-world build. Crimson Desert will be unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show in September.
Pearl Abyss has showcased Crimson Desert’s gameplay and open world extensively at various industry events over the years. The game takes place in the medieval fantasy setting of a continent called Piver, a region embroiled in a war of power. It’s inspired by popular games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, with a focus on action combat and open-world exploration. Crimson Desert will be available on PC, Mac, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
