10 stocks we like better than Archer Aviation ›
The helicopter is one of the most versatile transportation inventions. They can take off and land vertically, hover in place, operate without a runway, and reach remote areas, all of which makes them indispensable for medical, military and rescue purposes.
They are noisy, expensive, and not very fuel efficient. Now, it would be nice if we had an electric aircraft like a helicopter and more practical for daily use.
Well, that’s what aviation startups are, in a way Archer Air (NYSE:ACHR) Working on it.
Its flagship aircraft, the Midnight, is an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft with a pilot and four passengers that can taxi passengers short distances in urban environments.
The company’s main selling proposition is not to replace helicopters but to provide travelers with faster aerial routes when other modes of transportation, such as cars or buses, are too slow. The company may also sell its aircraft for commercial and defense purposes.
Archer Aviation currently trades for about $9, and its Midnight design has not yet received FAA certification. Without approval, the spacecraft cannot be operated commercially. Recent federal initiatives may help it make substantial progress, although it’s unclear when, if ever, the FAA will sign on.
As a result, Archer has yet to generate revenue and is burning through cash. Despite a flurry of good news in 2025, including being named the official air taxi provider for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, the stock is still trading down about 25% year over year as I write this.
For long-term investors, they believe that Morgan Stanley Estimates suggest the eVTOL market could be worth trillions of dollars, with sizable positions potentially running into seven figures at today’s prices. However, just know what you’re buying – a company that has yet to prove that its technology can scale – and adjust your position size based on your preferred risk tolerance. There’s no guarantee that this stock is your ticket to becoming a millionaire.
