A prominent former center fielder for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies took aim at President Donald Trump.
As recently as October last year, 62-year-old Lenny Dykstra praised Trump on social media, calling horror novelist Stephen King a “hypocrite” for criticizing the president’s $250 million White House ballroom project.
However, on December 29, Dykstra on X accused the president of “compromising” without providing further details.
“Donald Trump is damaged,” Dykstra wrote. “Call it like I see it, as always.”
Dykstra first entered Major League Baseball in 1985 as a member of the New York Mets, helping the team win the 1986 World Series. He played for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1989 to 1996, winning the Silver Slugger Award in 1993.
The baseball legend also dealt with legal issues. In 2009, Dykstra filed for bankruptcy, and in 2012, he pleaded guilty to money laundering and bankruptcy fraud.
Dykstra’s anti-Trump posts stand in stark contrast to other content he has posted on X. His posts are mostly filled with pro-conservative and anti-liberal posts, including retweeting posts attacking Chelsea Clinton while sharing conspiracies about Clinton’s mother, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
An X user named MAGAMichelle expressed surprise at Dykstra’s statement.
“Dykstra, you have pleaded guilty to bankruptcy fraud, money laundering, concealment of assets, and theft from your own bankruptcy estate, and Donald Trump was compromised???” the individual wrote.
In response, Dykstra told MAGA Michelle “you go ahead” and suggested Trump had broken several campaign promises.
“America first, no more foreign wars, no more taking orders from other countries, you released the Epstein documents on day one, and now you are threatening Iran while holding the hand of another foreign leader,” he wrote. “Sorry, there is no cult here.”
The foreign leader Dykstra was referring to appeared to be Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who met with Trump on Dec. 29 at the president’s Mar-a-Lago private club in Florida.
After the meeting, Trump told reporters at a press conference that the United States would support Israel in striking Iran if Iran continues to develop ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons.
“Now, I’m hearing that Iran is trying to rise again, and if they do that, we’re going to have to knock them down,” Trump said. “We’re going to knock them down. We’re going to beat the crap out of them. But hopefully that doesn’t happen.”
The United States previously launched a strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities in June 2025. The move drew anger and criticism from some conservatives, including former Fox News host Tucker Carlson and U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia.
