College Football Playoff First Round: STAFF PICKS

The College Football Playoff is right around the corner, and things are a little different this year after Notre Dame was eliminated by committee in the final two rounds of the playoff rankings — but I’m done with that article.

As I said before, I’m not stupidly boycotting the playoffs (or bowl games). I’m a huge college football fan, no matter how we got here – here we are now and I have a few predictions for the first round.

Duran Green Wave vs Ole Miss Rebels

If you want to argue that Lane Kiffin’s absence makes this game more interesting, that’s fine, but you’d be wrong. The scorned lover thing is kicking in, and oh yeah… Mississippi already beat Tulane 45-10 earlier this year.

Ole Miss 42 – Tulane 13

James Madison Dukes vs. Oregon Ducks

James Madison hasn’t played a top 50 school all year, and they’ll walk into Autzen Stadium (as is clear across the country) to take on an Oregon State team that’s been overlooked for much of the season despite only losing to Indiana. Dante Moore and company are going to carve up JMU so badly that we may be voting on a new playoff format before halftime.

Alabama Crimson Tide vs Oklahoma Clippers

We can call it “We’re here because of Dad Ball and our dad, Greg Sankey Ball,” and it’s easy to see why. Both teams’ offenses are terrible, but Oklahoma’s defense is better. Normally I don’t tend to pick a team to beat the same team twice, but…Alabama was really that bad. It’s a shame this game couldn’t end in a draw and get kicked out of the playoffs.

Miami Hurricanes vs. Texas A&M Aggies

Miami is less than 1,000 miles away from the atmosphere at Kyle Field. In addition to setting the mood, Mike Elko will have something in store for Carson Baker, who will have a meltdown on national television.

Texas A&M 27 – Miami 13

As has been the case with us all season, Tallysight’s picks are below. Not just the playoffs, but all the bowl games up until Christmas.
