The Cincinnati Reds shortstop’s future in Cincinnati may be over after rejecting a long-term extension offer.
According to our news partner WCPO, Eli De La Cruz has turned down an offer from the Reds to sign an extension that would have been the biggest payday in franchise history.

De La Cruz was offered a long-term contract extension last spring but turned it down, according to Manny Randhawa of MLB.com
He chose to decline the offer as he remains with the Reds and builds his career until reaching arbitration eligibility in 2027.
“We went into 2025 spring training and made an offer,” Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall told MLB.com on Friday.
Kral said the offer would be the largest contract in Red’s history.
The current largest contract in Reds history is the 10-year contract signed by former first baseman Joey Votto in 2012, worth $225 million.

Juan Soto currently holds the Major League Baseball contract record, having signed a 15-year contract worth $765 million with the New York Mets in 2024.
Soto’s contract breaks the previous record set in 2023, when Shohei Ohtani signed a 10-year, $700 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
