LONDON (AP) — Saturday’s second-division match between Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth has been postponed after a fan died after a medical emergency.
The game was suspended after 12 minutes as fans received medical treatment. Charlton later said the fan died at a local hospital.

“The club is sad to report that a Charlton Athletic supporter has died due to a medical emergency during today’s match against Portsmouth at The Valley,” the English club said in a statement. “Everyone at the club would like to send their heartfelt condolences to the supporter’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”
The Championship game takes place at Charlton Stadium at 12.30pm. The match was suspended when the home fans in the lower tier of the Covered End stand required medical assistance.
Fans told referee Matthew Donoghue that there was a serious problem.
The players initially waited on the pitch but were directed to leave by the referee after six minutes.
Paramedics attended to the supporter and he was taken away on a stretcher.
It was announced at 1:30 p.m. that the game would not continue.
