When Tony Dokoupil takes over as anchor of “CBS Evening News” on Jan. 5, he won’t be sitting behind a swanky anchor desk. Instead, he will travel to the United States for the first two weeks to “come face to face with Americans.”
And the Queen City will be one of the places he visits.
Emmy Award-winning reporter Dokoupil kicks off his tenure at “CBS Nightly News” with a 10-day “Live from America” road trip, starting in Miami, Florida. The play will open in Cincinnati on January 15th.
In a Dec. 18 press release, CBS News said Dokupil, who succeeded John Dixon and Maurice DuBois, was “meeting with people to share the most urgent and important stories.” and Americans instead of speaking arrive them. “
He will “get a fuller understanding of the country, a closer look at the neighbors with whom we share it and the challenges we all face,” the release continued.

In a statement to CBS, Dokupil said, “I grew up a little rocky, moving between Florida, Maryland and West Virginia, playing high school and college baseball across the country, and I learned to love talking to new people.”
“As a reporter, I realized there are some things you’ll never understand unless you’re out there with the people. Being there, and bringing other people there, is what I love most about the job and what makes me so excited about this trip,” he said.
CBS News faces backlash
CBS News is currently facing backlash in the United States for canceling its “60 Minutes” program scheduled to air on December 21.
The clip is set in CECOT, the notorious Salvadoran prison.
The news program announced the program update in a statement on December 21 at approximately 4:30 p.m., adding that the program “will be featured on future broadcasts.”
“We believe more coverage is needed,” CBS News said in a statement to USA TODAY.

Reporter Sharyn Alfonsi, who has worked for the station for more than two decades, reported the article. Multiple outlets, including The New York Times, NPR and CNN, obtained an email from Alfonsi to colleagues in which she said the decision to pull the segment was “not an editorial decision, it was a political one.”
She also reportedly said the work had been screened five times and had her lawyer’s permission. USA TODAY was unable to reach Alfonsi.
“60 Minutes” aired a segment about the family of a classical musician, a program update said. Although the show apparently airs in Canada, the show’s social media comments were flooded with viewers calling on the network to release the original clip, USA Today reported.
Paramount, the parent company of CBS, has been undergoing a year of restructuring. The company acquired independent media company The Free Press in October and named its CEO Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief of CBS News.
