Looks…familiar
What you’re seeing isn’t an AI overflow that has pushed memory prices to unreasonable levels. Caterpillar unveiled its first pickup truck, even showing it off in metal at ConExpo 2026.
That said, you don’t have to peel back a lot to figure out what its foundation is. It’s essentially a rebadged Ford Super Duty, with a slim steel bumper up front and an eye-catching package – at least we think it’s a package.
Yes, the Ford roots are obvious, but Caterpillar calls it the “jobsite truck of the future,” so what makes it so? If you missed the “Equipped with CAT Technology” words on the front door, it’s more about technology enhancements than mechanical upgrades.

What has changed?
To be sure, the engine was not affected in any way. Since it appears to be based on the F-450, we assume it has a 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel engine under the hood. Caterpillar promises “torque and towing” for its pickup truck, and it’s safe to say the Ford engine is more than up to the job.
We see some changes to some of the exterior panels. For example, the hood is custom-made and the fenders have square wheel arches. The rear wheel arches are also more angular than those on the F-450. While we did see all-terrain tires installed on the truck, it’s hard to tell if its suspension has been upgraded. Some of the interiors we’ve seen in the company’s videos show that the cabin is pretty much stock, although the steering wheel wears a CAT badge.
So, there’s not much to report here, but Caterpillar wanted to highlight the technology upgrades they’ve added to the Super Duty.

Additional tools
If you notice the roof rack, that’s where a drone can be deployed to inspect the job site in advance. according to drivewhich also includes a proximity detector to monitor people who get too close to the machine, and an onboard artificial intelligence assistant provided by Visionlink Productivity.
This is not the new model from scratch that some had hoped for. Now, we can’t say for sure if Caterpillar will sell these anytime soon, but it seems more like a testbed for a worksite solution than an actual production model. Maybe the company will be able to offer it as a pickup truck package soon, but we don’t think the entire truck will hit showrooms anytime soon.
