India’s top telecom service providers (TSPs) Vodafone Idea (Vi), Airtel, Jio and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) offer call forwarding services to their users. Users can activate it by entering one of the codes mentioned below followed by a phone number of their choice. It can be deactivated using the corresponding code. Vi and Jio offer four types of call forwarding, each used to redirect incoming calls under specific circumstances. Whether you are an Airtel, Jio, Vi or BSNL user, here is everything you need to know about activating and deactivating call forwarding.
What is a call forwarding code?
As the name suggests, call forwarding feature codes allow users to redirect calls to another contact number by simply dialing the code on the phone’s dialer. You can activate or deactivate this feature by inserting different codes depending on your TSP choice. It comes in handy when your SIM card is out of network coverage, your phone is switched off, or you can’t receive calls. Calls can be forwarded to a landline, another phone, or your voicemail.
When you dial the appropriate code from your primary phone along with the number and country code to which you want calls redirected, you will stop receiving calls until you deactivate the code. To do this, you must dial a different call forwarding code, as described below. Some companies also offer four types of call forwarding, each with a different code for a specific purpose. The first is unconditional call forwarding, which redirects all incoming calls, and the second is busy call forwarding, which is used when you are on a call.
Some TSPs also allow Call Forward Not Answered and Call Forward Not Reachable, which redirect calls when you don’t answer the call and are outside the network coverage area.
How to turn call forwarding on and off?
Here’s how to activate and deactivate call forwarding using the USSD code on your phone. Remember, each telecom provider requires a different code, so if you have two SIM cards from Vi and Airtel, you need to use the correct code for each SIM card.
