Burke County man arrested after Christmas Day knife assault

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 38-year-old man for a violent knife attack on Christmas Day.

Deputies said they were notified of the assault on Dec. 25, 2025, and responded to Catawba Valley Medical Center, where the victim was being treated for serious injuries.

During the investigation, investigators spoke with the victim, witness Storme Abee, and suspect Bruce Alan Reed.

Deputies reported they observed deep lacerations on the victim’s body and due to the severity of his injuries, medical staff requested he be airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem for further treatment.

Based on the evidence gathered, Reed was taken into custody and charged with felonious assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or cause great bodily harm.

Court records show Reed appeared before a Burke County magistrate judge and was given a $50,000 secured bond after an initial appearance on Dec. 29, 2025.

Reed is scheduled to return to court on January 22, 2026. The Burke County Sheriff’s Office continues to handle the investigation.
