Browns NFL free agency: Grading the signing of blocking TE Jack Stoll

After Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry spent the early days of free agency rebuilding the offensive line, he turned his attention to the tight end space on Wednesday. As David Njoku posted his farewell words on social media, the room looked pretty empty except for standout rookie Harold Fannin Jr.

The Browns signed veteran tight end Jake Stoll, who spends the 2025 season with the New Orleans Saints. Stoll isn’t going to be a weapon in the passing game; he’s going to be a weapon in the passing game. He had less than 250 yards in five seasons, but he did bring something much needed to the team: He was a good blocker.

What Stoll brings to the Browns

With Njoku gone and Fanning not being a great blocker, the Browns absolutely need to add someone who can hold his own as a blocker and fill the team’s TE3 role. The Browns still need to add another player to the room, but they’ve filled the blocking tight end role; that’s what this signing is all about, a blocker without a ton of receiving upside.

Signing grade: C+
