Browns head coaching search: 5th, possibly final, 2nd interview candidate revealed

The weekend began with everyone around the NFL wondering when John Harbaugh would officially take over the New York Giants job, with plenty of questions popping up in the head coaching carousel and the division title game participants up in the air. By early Sunday afternoon, Harbaugh had signed, Kevin Stefanski was headed to the Atlanta Falcons (possibly taking a few of his past coaches with the Cleveland Browns with him), and the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks had also punched their tickets to the next round.

For Browns fans wondering what’s next in the team’s head coaching search, there’s a lot that’s unknown through reports. We learned on Saturday that Cleveland D.C. Jim Schwartz would be interviewing for a second time, and then Sunday brought us news that four more candidates were joining the list. Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase is the fifth candidate to receive a second interview, according to Mary Kay Cabot and Daryl Ruiter:

According to Root, there are only five candidates left for the position:

Once McDaniel and Shelhaas both receive in-person interviews, they will satisfy the Rooney Rule. This is required before a team can hire a new head coach. As Cabot noted, Scheerhas’ availability for an on-field interview will depend on the outcome of the Rams’ game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday night.

What are your thoughts on Scheerhas as a candidate, especially compared to Udinsky? Do you think the five names above are the only candidates left? Or will the Browns head coaching search add some names?
