While the 2025 season ended in disappointment, the Denver Broncos turned things around and appear to be an AFC Super Bowl contender.

However, the Broncos’ offense needs improvement heading into the upcoming 2026 NFL season. While they are bringing everyone back starting in 2025, Denver’s skill players need to add more playmaking ability, with one of the most pressing needs being tight end.
Nick Kosmider of The Athletic has linked the Broncos to one such playmaker, Cleveland Browns free agent tight end David Njoku. After nine years in Cleveland, Njoku could come to Denver and give Bonix another needed playmaker.

“Names that the Broncos could be interested in include tight ends Dallas Goedert and David Njoku and wide receiver Ja’an Jennings,” Kosmid wrote.

While Dallas Goedert and Ja’an Jennings may be the Broncos’ more attractive free-agent targets among the three Kosmid nominees, Njoku is still worth drafting.
He’s 29 years old, and even though he’s coming off another tough injury-shortened season, Njoku is still a playmaking tight end who would be a better starter than Evan Engram as an interior option.
Last season, Njoku caught 33 passes on 48 targets for 293 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games. In his final full season in 2023, he caught 81 passes on 123 targets for 882 yards and six touchdowns, both career highs.
While he hasn’t been great, he’s been a consistent receiving tight end for the Browns, who have been one of the worst teams over the past few seasons, especially on offense.

He spent nine years of his NFL career with the Browns, and now, he’s about to hit free agency and is likely on his way out.
If Sean Payton and George Payton are ready to add outside help to the Knicks this offseason, Nyoku, a solid receiving tight end, will be a realistic free agent target.
Although Njoku’s offensive game is weaker, the ceiling he shows should make him an interesting option for the Broncos. It wouldn’t be surprising if Njoku joins the Knicks in Denver and could have another Pro Bowl-caliber season.
With a need for tight end and Njoku ultimately looking to join an elite offense, it makes a lot of sense for the Broncos to acquire a Pro Bowler this offseason, who would be a very interesting free agent addition for Denver.
