A 15-year-old boy in Australia died after his e-bike crashed into a pole on New Year’s Eve.

According to Australian media 7 News, at around 7:30 pm local time on December 31, Lucas Reid collided with a utility pole on Dons Head Road while riding an electric bicycle in Devonport, Tasmania.

Tasmania Police confirmed the incident on Facebook but did not reveal the identity of the victim at the time. They wrote: “Police and emergency services were called to the scene on Don Heads Road just after 8pm after reports an e-bike had crashed into a pole.”

Police added: “The teenage rider tragically died at the scene.”

The investigation is ongoing.

“Our thoughts are with the rider’s family and loved ones,” police said.

People contacted Tasmania Police on January 4 but did not immediately receive a response.

Reid previously survived the 2021 Hillcrest Primary School tragedy, which resulted in the death of six children and other serious injuries, when winds tossed a jumping castle more than 30 feet into the air in Devonport.

The boy spent several weeks in hospital and required the use of a wheelchair after the incident four years ago, Australian newspapers reported mercury reported.

At the time, Reid met with members of Richmond Football Club and the Greater Western Sydney Giants, including his favorite player Toby Green.

Green paid tribute to the teen and told mercury“This is tragic news. Lucas was such a great young man and overcame a lot.”

“His resilience and optimism really stood out,” the Giants captain continued about his late fan.

“We met many years ago and have enjoyed staying in touch and the kids loved seeing him at games. The Giants extend our deepest sympathies to Reid’s family and friends,” Green concluded.
