Boy, 16, dies after being hit by car

A 16-year-old boy was hit and killed by a car.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said he was struck by a Seat Ibiza as he was crossing the Kingsway in Burnage, Manchester, at around 18:40 GMT on Friday.

He suffered serious injuries and later died in hospital.

GMP said an 18-year-old man was arrested following the incident on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has been bailed while inquiries are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Antrobus said: “This is a tragic incident and my first thoughts are with the family of the young boy who tragically lost his life.

“They are being supported by specialist officers and we ask that their privacy is respected as they grieve.

“We know the local community will also be shocked and saddened to hear about this incident, but we encourage anyone with information or who may have been in the area at the time of the incident to come forward.

The detective added: “This also includes anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash cam footage.”
