Box truck hits UF student, causing life-threatening injuries

The Gainesville Police Department reports a University of Florida student suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a truck on campus.

The incident occurred about 100 yards south of University Avenue at Buckman Avenue at the University of Florida. At approximately 10:34 a.m. on February 23, police received reports that a box truck had struck a pedestrian.

A preliminary investigation revealed the box truck was traveling south on Buckman Drive when the unidentified 19-year-old college student walked east and entered the roadway near a marked crosswalk.

The student was transported to a local hospital on a “life-threatening trauma alert,” GPD reports.

The Independent Florida Gator reported that the van belonged to the Hare Krishna group.

The accident remains under investigation.
