Joanna Bernabe-McNamee’s time at Boston College is over.
The Eagles parted ways with Bernabe-McNamee on Sunday night, ending her eight-season run with the program after the final game of the regular season. Bernabe McNamee’s contract expired at the end of this season and the school chose not to renew it.
“I want to thank Joanna for her contributions to the Boston College women’s basketball program during her eight years as an Eagle, as she had a huge impact on many young women who went on to do great things,” athletic director Blake James said in a statement. “It’s time for change and we wish Joanna and her family the best for the future.”
Bernabe McNamee took over Boston College in 2018, but she only had two winning seasons and never made an NCAA Tournament appearance during her tenure. The Eagles are just 5-26 on the season and finished the season with just one win since Thanksgiving. On February 19, the team defeated SMU 77-59, ending a 20-game losing streak.

They went 1-17 in league play and were last in the ACC standings. As a result, they did not qualify for the ACC Tournament.
Bernabe-McNamee is 113-132 and 43-94 in ACC play.
“We are extremely proud of the various sports we sponsor, including our women’s teams, and we are well positioned to attract a strong candidate pool,” James said in a statement. “Our training facilities are top-notch, our fans and supporters are hungry for success, and we compete in one of the best women’s basketball conferences in the country – the ACC. I’m excited to find the right person to elevate our program and share our values.”
Whoever James hires to replace Bernabe McNamee will be tasked with turning this program around. The Eagles haven’t been to the NCAA tournament since 2006 and haven’t been nationally ranked since the 2010-11 season.
